Limgroup breeds strawberries and asparagus and produces the corresponding seeds. The company operates from two locations, with a total of 8 hectares of greenhouses and various growing racks, tunnels, and a tray field. Within these greenhouses, there are 131 separate compartments, each requiring its own cultivation control.
With IIVO from Hoogendoorn, Limgroup can control every stage of cultivation individually. “The IIVO gives us the flexibility to provide each stage with its own cultivation control,” says Cas Weijers, Crop Specialist Strawberry at Limgroup. “Furthermore, the system can scale up; this flexibility also gives us more confidence in the growth of our company.”
The system also offers great ease of use. “The user-friendliness of the IIVO is excellent. Using a work phone or tablet, we can make changes to our climate system on-site in the greenhouse compartment and immediately observe the result. The ability to apply a ViP to a parameter also gives us a lot of freedom in our cultivation control.”
Data-driven growing is an important focus point for Limgroup. The use of algorithms and extensive visualization and monitoring options helps the team ensure precision and consistency, which is essential in breeding trials.

The collaboration with Hoogendoorn also runs smoothly, says Martijn van Haastert, Manager Operations at Limgroup. “I would describe the collaboration with Hoogendoorn as very positive. I have greatly enjoyed working together throughout the entire transition. During almost the entire process, someone was present on-site to assist us, and that has certainly contributed to the success.”
Wouter Goedendorp, Area Manager Sales at Hoogendoorn, adds: “At Hoogendoorn, we are proud to work together with Limgroup, market leader in asparagus breeding and the driving force behind the F1 hybrids in strawberry, and to support their ambitions with IIVO.”
